About
Welcome to Communication Matters, my musings on the art and practice of communicating with customers in the digital and social age.
I’ve been a technical and professional communicator for 10 years. I graduated with a BS in Technical Communication from New Mexico Tech in 1999. In 2005 I completed my MBA in Marketing from University of Phoenix. I’ve been employed at a major computer manufacturer for 10 years, and have been a product marketing manager for server management software for 7 years. The last few years, I focused on programs to improve our customer experience utilizing web and social media. In 2009, I moved to a cross-functional team that supports social media initiatives for our enterprise business teams.
I’m a Senior Member of the Society for Technical Communication and am a member of the Houston community. I’ve been president of two STC communities (New Mexico Tech and Houston), served in various local administrative roles, and been active in both newsletter and PR activities for the Houston community.
I’m also a board member of the Story Circle Network, a non-profit organization that encourages women to tell their life stories and raises awareness of the importance of women’s personal histories. Life writing has been an exciting journey for me and I’ll be hosting a blog on that in the near future. I also produce a monthly podcast for SCN, so please take a listen!
